Why you can trust businesses on Wildgrid

Why do we verify Wildgrid businesses?

Our mission is to help more people tackle renewable energy and energy efficiency projects at home. We want you to not only transform your home into a money-saving, sustainable oasis ... but also feel confident doing so. Installing solar panels, a heat pump, or re-doing your home's insulation can be a big, scary purchase. You want to choose a high quality provider who is going to do the job right. So, we developed the Green Business Directory to help you review and compare providers in your area.

What kind of businesses can be included in the Green Business Directory?

  • Solar installers
  • Home Energy Auditers
  • Insulation professionals
  • HVAC contractors (especially those who install heat pumps and geothermal systems)
  • Electricians (specializing in EV chargers and electrical panel upgrades)
  • Plumbers (specializing in heat pump water heater installs)
  • Landscaping professionals (specializing in native pollinator gardens and low-maintenance landscaping)

If a business is "verified", what does that mean?

Verified Wildgrid businesses are exceptional at what they do. Before we allow a provider to join our Green Business Directory, we evaluate them to ensure that they’ll provide you with the highest quality service.

We approve service providers based on the following criteria:

  • Years of experience: We look for businesses with 5+ years of experience. We sometimes partner with emerging startups who do not have 5+ years of experience, but have a positive track record.
  • Experience with local rebates & incentives: We look for businesses who know how to file for the local utility rebates and/or state incentives. You want to make sure you can get the maximum money back in your pocket.
  • Professional licenses: Solar installers must be NABCEP certified. HVAC contractors must have a BPI certification. Pearl and NATE certifications are cherries on top. If you've never heard of these certifications, don't worry, we got you.
  • Reputation: We look for providers who have a history of positive reviews on Google, social media, and the BBB (Better Business Bureau).
  • No high pressure sales tactics: A great provider will take the time to answer all of your questions and concerns. You should never feel pressured into signing something if you aren't ready.

If a business is "Not Verified", what does that mean?

It means the business has been researched & vetted to be a high quality provider by Wildgrid, but they are not an official partner yet. We evaluate them on the criteria (listed above) based on information publicly available on their website and on review websites. In every company profile, be sure to read "Why We Like Them" for an explanation of why we chose to include them.

Why do we include "not verified" businesses at all? Because we don't want to leave you hanging! We are expanding our Green Business Directory to cover the entire United States, but we aren't everywhere yet. We know it's intimidating to use Google to find a contractor. You have to sift through page after page of eligible providers, not knowing which one is legitimate. If we don't have any verified partners in your area, unverified businesses are fantastic choices.

If a Wildgrid business is 'verified', should I hire them without getting other quotes?

Absolutely not. We always recommend receiving three quotes from different providers for any home project. Choosing the right provider is often not about choosing the lowest quote. You want to find a provider that you feel comfortable with, has the type of products or services you want, can file for rebates on your behalf, AND has a price that fits your budget. It can take talking to multiple providers to find the right fit. We like the proverb "measure twice, cut once".
